Notes to Interested Parties:

1940 aerial photographs presented here correspond to a scale ratio of 1:40000 and were flown for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service (USDA/SCS).

Mosaics 1-36 are hand mosaics subsequently photographed and scanned. Significant distortion is associated with the hand mosaics, and therefore the referenced digital mosaics. The images are to be used as a general guide for locating photos and areas of interest.

The Collier County photos were scanned in color to represent actual image quality, and are therefore somewhat yellow. The original photography was black and white.

All photos were either scanned or resampled at 300 dots per inch (dpi).

The photographs contained in this open file report have been cataloged by the USGS into a database of historical aerial photography of the Florida Everglades, as part of an effort to digitally archive sets of historical aerial photography. The database includes detailed information about each photograph and set of photographs. Photographs are individually cataloged in the database and are referred to by a unique identifying number. Some of this information is included as attributes of the photo center points shapefile which is included in this report.
