A total of 53 still photographs of the sea floor were obtained at 13 stations as part of this study (fig. 24). The small SEABOSS system was used to obtain 3 to 6 still photographs at each station as the R/V Rafael drifted over the seabed for 2 to 5 minutes approximately 50 cm off the bottom. The field of view of each image is approximately 50 cm wide.
Low-resolution images (150 x 113 pixels) of the photographs may be viewed by browsing the thumbnails in the photo gallery below. These thumbnails are hyperlinked to medium-resolution images (600 x 450 pixels) for more detailed viewing. Alternatively, the directory containing the full-resolution images (2560 x 1920 pixels) may be accessed by clicking here. These full-resolution images can be identified using the .jpg image names in galleries below. Textural analyses of samples obtained at these stations are provided in the Sediments section of this report.
PI1 / Intermixed patches of boulders, pebble- and cobble-sized gravel, and current-rippled sand. Boulders are overgrown with sponges and algae; mussel shells and shell debris are common. |

PI3 / Bouldery sea floor with intervening patches of current-rippled sand and patchy scattered mussel shells and shell debris. Boulders are overgrown with sponges, hydrozoans, seaweed, and anemones. Red starfish present. |

PI4 / Boulders overgrown with seaweed and sponges. Some of the seaweed is live, growing kelp. Rippled sand with scattered mussel shells and burrows, and pebble- and cobble-sized gravel variably covers the sea floor between the boulders. |

PI6 / Rippled and megarippled sand on flanks of a sand wave with sparse to dense shell and shell hash patches. Large numbers of congregating spider crabs; cancer and hermit crabs are present. Station was sited in the trough of a large sand wave. |
