Deep-Towed Chirp Profiles of the Blake Ridge Collapse Structure: USGS OFR 01-123
The Federal Geographic Data Committee coordinates the development of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI). The NSDI encompasses policies, standards, and procedures for organizations to cooperatively produce and share geographic data. The 17 federal agencies that make up the FGDC are developing the NSDI in cooperation with organizations from state, local and tribal governments, the academic community, and the private sector. Metadata or "data about data" describe the content, quality, condition, and other characteristics of data. The Federal Geographic Data Committee approved the Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (FGDC-STD-001-1998) in June 1998. Visit the FGDC Clearinghouse to learn more about how metadata is used in Internet-based clearinghouses to search for specific data sets. The metadata file (metadata.txt) on this CD-ROM complies with FGDC standards.
