The aerial gamma-ray and Landsat data presented here can be used together to provide information about the geologic materials in the study area. This information can be used to infer rock types and to aid geologic mapping. Classification of the gamma-ray data provides some indications regarding the characteristic gamma-ray properties of some of the geologic formations. The best use of the gamma-ray data, however, is in conjunction with the Landsat images. The Landsat data provide detailed images that show different properties of the geologic material and can be used to tentatively identify some specific rock types. The gamma-ray data enhance the identifications that can be made with the Landsat data. For example, basalt intrusions and flows are readily noted in the Landsat images and the low radioactivity associated with them makes the identification of the basalt more definitive. Similarly, silicic intrusions are relatively easy to identify as being radioactive and are distinctive in the Landsat images. The Landsat data and the gamma-ray data are expected to facilitate geologic mapping efforts.
