Time-Series Plots


Time-series plots of selected data and from supporting data are provided below as an overview of the observations from the Cape Hatteras study. Plots provided show the measured data.

Type of Plots

Meteorological Observations

Wind speed in meters per second (m/s), wind direction in degrees, significant wave height in meters (m), water temperature in degrees Celsius (C), and barometric pressure hectopascals (hPa) are shown at supporting meteorological stations. Wave, temperature, and pressure information are available only at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) station.

Coastal River Streamflow Observations

Average daily streamflow (ft³/s) for supporting meanflow stations along the Tranters Creek and Van Swamp.

Temperature Observations

Seawater temperature (degrees C) is shown at all sites. Significant wave height (m) is also included to provide an indication of wave energy.

Offshore sites

Water Flow Observations

Water flow observations in centimeters per second (cm/s) at individual sites are shown at the surface and at the bottom. Observations are from Teledyne RD Instruments' Workhorse ADCPs and Nortek Aquadopps. At all sites, the surface is the upper-most bin at which data has not been greatly affected by waves or tides. Significant wave height is also shown to provide an indication of wave energy.
