Site Description

All sites

In this experiment, some sites were occupied in both spring and fall, and the distance between the sites varies greatly (fig. 2A). Detailed views of the upstream sites on the Blackwater (fig. 2B) and Transquaking (fig. 2C) Rivers show the proximity of these measurements. All the sites may be viewed by opening the file BWsites.kml in GoogleEarth, and zooming to explore the site locations. Descriptions of the sites and instruments deployed at each follow. Additional details and links to the data files collected are provided in the Mooring Log.

Spring 2011

Mooring 903- Confluence of tidal creek and Blackwater River

This site is located at the confluence of an unnamed tidal creek and the Blackwater River, landward of the Maple Dam Road bridge. A pole mount was driven into the bed with a multiparameter YSI model 6920 sonde mounted 0.35 meters above bottom (mab).

Mooring 904- Center of tidal creek off Blackwater River

This site is located approximately 100 m landward from mooring 903, in the center of the tidal channel. A pole mount was driven into the bed with a multiparameter YSI model 6920 sonde mounted 0.35 mab.

Mooring 905- Edge of tidal creek off Blackwater River

This site is located adjacent to mooring 904, at the edge of the tidal channel. A pole mount was driven into the bed with a multiparameter YSI model 6920 sonde mounted 0.35 mab.

Mooring 906- Confluence of tidal creek and Transquaking River

This site is located 200 m landward of the confluence of an unnamed tidal creek and the Transquaking River. A pole mount was driven into the bed with a multiparameter YSI model 6920 sonde mounted 0.35 mab.

Mooring 907- Center of tidal creek off Transquaking River

This site is located 2000 m landward of the confluence of an unnamed tidal creek and the Transquaking River. A pole mount was driven into the bed with a multiparameter YSI model 6920 sonde mounted 0.35 mab.

Mooring 908- Edge of tidal creek off Transquaking River

This site is located adjacent to mooring 907, at the edge of the tidal channel. A pole mount was driven into the bed with a multiparameter YSI model 6920 sonde mounted 0.35 mab.

Fall 2011

Mooring 915- Confluence of tidal creek and Transquaking River

This site is identical to mooring 906, with the addition of a bed-mounted Aquadopp velocity profiler in the center of the channel.

Mooring 916- Edge of Blackwater River seaward of Maple Dam Road

This site is on the Blackwater River, 200 m seaward of the Maple Dam Road bridge. A pole mount was driven into the bed at the edge of the channel with a multiparameter YSI model 6920 sonde mounted 0.35 mab. A bed-mounted Aquadopp velocity profiler was deployed in the center of the channel.

Mooring 917- Edge of tidal creek off Blackwater River

This site is identical to mooring 905, with a WET Labs ECO BB turbidity sensor in place of a multiparameter sonde.

Mooring 918- Edge of tidal creek off Transquaking River

This site is identical to mooring 908, with a WET Labs ECO BB turbidity sensor in place of a multiparameter sonde.
